About the session

Theme: AI | Ethics

New uses of AI are emerging everywhere. Some will last, many won’t, but all will have an impact.

Many teams and organisations are jumping to implement AI in their services without considering its equity and justice consequences in a thorough and robust way.

In this practical workshop we will try applying 12 equity and justice questions about AI to work we do in government service design (either work you and your teams are doing or considering or a case study).

The aim of the workshop is to help us practise identifying and mitigating possible harms, consider hidden effects and check in against our personal and organisational values.

Participant takeaways:

  • AI is having and will continue to have huge impacts on our work, our lives and our futures
  • we need to practise having conversations about the equity and justice implications of our use of AI in government
  • there are tools and techniques available - the 12 questions and this workshop format are some of them
  • the tools are easy to use, and we can start having an impact right now
