About the session
Theme: Mediation
Anyone tasked with making change happen in an organisation must be able to handle conflict with confidence, build trust and foster collaboration. All of these abilities are abundant in professional mediation practices, and with time, these skills can be learned by anyone.
This workshop will equip you with the fundamentals of mediation practice, and enable you to apply the core skills when facilitating democratic and transformative change in your organisation.
Workshop inclusivity:
- slides and workshop materials will be in large font, high contrast and use inclusive language
- jargon will be kept to a minimum, and any technical terms will be explained
- there will be a break halfway through the session
- participants will be given additional time to review workshop materials
- quieter voices will be encouraged to speak (e.g. 'whose perspective haven't we heard yet?')
Participant takeaways:
- our past experiences shape our attitudes to conflict, and understanding conflict styles can help aid collaboration
- change programmes can trigger conflict, and conflict can get in the way of true transformation
- mediation skills can help ensure views are heard, de-escalate conflict, and create space for new ideas to grow
