About the session
Theme: Service patterns
Members of the UCD team behind the newly released MyCare.scot share how service patterns were used as a practical tool to frame new components for MyCare.scot.
Drawing on users’ experiences of navigating today’s health services, patterns translated common service interactions into simple, reusable elements.
In workshops, participants critiqued and adapted these patterns, helping shape clearer features while revealing insights about transparency, trust and how people want to access and understand their health and care information.
Participant takeaways:
how to use service patterns as a practical co-design tool rather than just documentation artefacts
how to translate complex public service journeys into patterns that participants can easily understand and critique
how patterns create a shared language between designers, users and healthcare professionals
what we learned about designing transparent patient-facing services in a national health context
how teams across government can apply this approach when designing complex digital public services at pace
